| Cuts like the conventional Hammer and Hardie and hand held nippers except our chisel edges are perfectly aligned allowing for the same accurate cuts to be made repeatedly. No more worries about the sharp edges of the Hammer and Hardie contacting each other. The depth stop we use allows our chisels to never touch - much like using hand held nippers. Unlike the hand held nippers our Chopper dramatically reduces the effort required to cut the tesserae. |
| The rack and pinion design gives you a 20 to 1 mechanical advantage when working with very hard to cut stone but loosen one set screw holding the pinion assembly and the pinion is easily removed. This allows the upper chisel to move freely for hand operation for rapid and accurate multiple cuts. Our depth stop is mounted on the rack so there is no possibility of the chisel edges contacting each other when the pinion is removed. Most of our customers never even install the pinion and prefer to operate the rack manually. |
| We use 2 sizes of chisels - the 1-3/8 inch wide standard chisels are fabricated with forged tool steel and easily sharpened. As an option we offer 1-1/4 inch wide carbide tipped chisels for longer life between sharpening. |
| Our pinion handle is fully adjustable allowing for length and position changes. The rack has two front and two side gibs to eliminate any wear that may develop along with an adjustable depth stop. |
| The base chisel is also adjustable allowing for easy removal for sharpening or alignment. |
| The tool base measures 9-1/4 inches in length and 4 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches tall not including the rack and handle length. The Chopper weighs almost 20 pounds and may be used portable or bench mounted. |
